Welcome to the Island Perspective Blog. It is here, where you can find out what global events look like from an outside perspective. What weird or bizarre stories make it all the way to a dot on the map country? A spec of land on planet Earth. A remote island on the Pacific Rim called Guam. And one college kid, who is an unknown, on an unknown island...this might actually be the most unknown blog in the entire worLD! Last few words... "TRIPLE P...Positivity.Progression.Peace." -JRS

New Poll shows Left and Right Unite Against Controversial SCOTUS Decision
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that the vast majority of Americans are vehemently opposed to a recent Supreme Court ruling that opens the door for corporations, labor unions, and other organizations to spend money directly from their general funds to influence campaigns.
As noted by the Post's Dan Eggen, the poll's findings show "remarkably strong agreement" across the board, with roughly 80% of Americans saying that they're against the Court's 5-4 decision. Even more remarkable may be that opposition by Republicans, Democrats, and Independents were all near the same 80% opposition range. Specifically, 85% of Democrats, 81% of Independents, and 76% of Republicans opposed it. In short, "everyone hates" the ruling.

Yeah Judge Samuel Alito! haha! You shook your head and said "not true" when Obama addressed this issue during his State of the Union Speech. Now look at you. haha. SAT!

Gov.Camacho and Congresswoman Bordallo give their State of the Island Speeches

Well, I watched them both on t.v. But not in its entirity. It's nice to see them both change their stance on the military buildup. It's good that we had those DEIS community meetings because the overwhelming majority of island residents spoke out against the buildup and the Gov and the Congresswoman listened.
Also, the Gov proclaimed his intent to officially change Guam back to its indigenous name Guahan. More on this later.

China soon to be No.2 Economy
China's economy grew by 8.7% in 2009, even in the face of a global economic slowdown. Japan, which will report its full-year numbers on Feb. 14, is expected to slip behind China due to the steep decline in its economy in the first half of last year.

U.S. Militairy Being Sued by 7,000 Islanders in Puerto Rico for Alleged Poisoning and Health Problems
I saw this on tv, CNN Primetime Special originally aired Feb. 2 2010. Basically the island of Vecques, Puerto Rico was used for decades as a militairy bomb testing range. Now the island residents are suing because a lot of them are sick. This is why I don't want them testing their bombs and weapons on Guam island. We may or may not get sick. No thanks, I don't want to take a chance.

Less Teens Working in U.S.A. than ever before due to the Recession
I was reading a January 2010 issue of TIME magazine while I was waiting at a dental clinic the other day and the article stated that because of the Recession, less teenagers are working in the U.S.A.
That's not even the story. The real story is what kind of effect will that have on America's youth in the future? Hmmmm. Thought Provoking.

Thoughts on the iPhone

America's certified pop-culture tech device. The use of the letter "i" before the phone reminds me of something I read somewhere a while ago about how the word "I" is the most commonly used word in the English speaking language.
Now, how can that be used to benefit sales in apple's marketing scheme?
Well, people are trained and enjoy using the word "I" so maybe they will like to say the word "iPhone". Let's name our new cell phone, the "iPhone!" Yeah!

2 Seperate Horrible Murders Caught on Camera (2010)
(I think of myself as a sacrifice to Guam youth for exposing myself to this horrible but real life subject matter.)
SHOCKING: Angry ex-husband murders ex-wife with 8 shots at a cafe.
LAPD shoots 81 shots and kills an unarmed man.

Thought on Technology
This whole technology thing. Computer usage, iPhone apps,...is this what I do at this age? Or is this a lifetime thing?
But actually I see myself on a ranch when Im older, with peace and quiet, no technology, but we aint even thinking that far.

Thoughts on Pres.Obama's State of the Union Speech
First of all, what a grand spectacle. All three branches of government in one building! The Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches all hanging out together.
That's cool. Talk about a security issue.
I watched Obama's S.O.T.U. Address at the UOG computer lab, on hulu.com streaming LIVE. Good thing I had my headphones. It was on a 12 noon Guam time. I like to see the President make his entrance and exit, shaking hands with politicians en route.
All the Republican senators on one side and the Democratic senators on the other side. haha.
I really like how all these American political leaders stand up clap, cheer, and even boo the President on what he says in the middle of his speech. And the thing is Obama allows for responses to happen. haha.
It's nothing novel, this is typical for State of the Union Speeches for all President's but it's interesting to see Obama in this situation and how he handles it. We all remember when one republican senator yelled out "You Lie" to Obama during one of his three speeches to the chamber.
It was funny to see the President call out the Supreme Court judges about their landmark decision to allow no caps on companies who want to donate to a political campaign, going against a 100 year old law. Then the camera showed the judges and Judge Samuel Alito was shaking his head and mumbled something saying "that's not true." There was a big debate on CNN about this particular part on the speech because they said we rarely get to see a reaction from Supreme Court judges. Haha. I was suprised to see the judge shake his head. Obama definately saw that, because all the judges were sitting in the front row.
I also liked the part where Obama was talking about climate change, and there was some commotion when he mentioned that he knew some (the republicans) would disagree on the scientific evidence of global warming. See the clip below:
Some other quotes that Obama said regarding education.
"In the 21st century, the best anti poverty program is a world class education"
"Price of college tuition is just one of the burdens affecting the middle class."
"In the U.S.A. you should not worry about being broke just because you decided to go to college."
That's cool. Talk about a security issue.
